Curatorial analysis

A kaleidoscopic pulse dominates the surface from the very first moment. Carlos Tapia dismantles the New York skyline to reconstruct it through a choreography of fractured rhythms, ascending arches, and light beams that slice across the night sky. On the left, a stylized arm holds a minute torch projecting an oblique beam toward a globular burst at the zenith; at the center, the overlapping arches of the Chrysler Building stack up in undulating fans; on the right, the stepped mass of an Art Deco skyscraper rises with the rigidity of a contemporary ziggurat. This coexistence of sinuous curves and orthogonal edges generates a vibrant spatial tension, where the city seems to expand beyond the square canvas.

The pigment settles in defined planes, bounded by thick black lines that function like the lead came of a secular stained glass window. Rather than dimming the tones, this outline enhances the chromatic clash between acid greens, deep purples, magenta, and fiery yellows. Light does not bathe the forms in a naturalistic manner, nor does it cast conventional shadows: it materializes into triangles and wedges that cut through space like searchlights at an endless gala. Even the sky, segmented into facets alternating glowing ochres and dense violets, behaves as another luminous mechanism.

This atmosphere synthesizes the modern myth of the metropolis that never sleeps, yet translates it into a visual language where monumental scale relinquishes its industrial weight in favor of a festive, almost playful dynamism. The architecture sheds its coldness of concrete and steel, becoming a pulsating organism of pure color where every crown and every window pane celebrates the tireless energy of the urban horizon.
