Curatorial analysis

An absolute bath of amber and golden ochre unifies the space, transforming the architecture into a warm resonance where time seems suspended. Within this chamber of Renaissance arches, checkered floors, and hatches opening toward invisible depths, the atmosphere acts almost like a fossilizing amber capsule, enveloping a fantastical procession of mythological and mechanical undertones.

The visual focus centers on the monumental hybrid creature: a female bust in hieratic profile with a metallic headdress that merges into an owl's plumage of monumental scale. Its wings, meticulously rendered in cream and chestnut tones, fall with organic weight toward the ground while linked to a slender spoked wheel, suggesting a rolling contraption that defies the laws of anatomy and aeronautics. Below, a small armored figure riding a unicycle, crowned with a birdcage holding a small owl, supports the structure and seems to direct its advance. This disparity in scale creates an intriguing tension between the rider's fragility and the winged magnificence of what he transports or guards.

The surface operates through two contrasting treatments. Across the architectural walls and background, the mixed media technique deploys broken textures and golden glazes applied with a spatula or rubbing, giving the setting a mineral vibration. In contrast, the faces, the armor's metal, and the feathered plumage reveal a smooth, almost enameled brushwork that imparts a refined automaton quality to the figures. Subtle chromatic accents, such as the scarlet macaw perched on the wheel's rim, punctuate the monochrome without disrupting its hegemony.

Rather than a hunting scene, the painting proposes an enigmatic allegory of domestication and the chimera. The gatherer does not subjugate the beast with chains; instead, he forms part of its mechanism, revealing a symbiosis where transport, invention, and suspended flight inhabit the same timeless fiction.
