Curatorial analysis

Two compact presences measure each other in a silent collision where the space between them is practically nonexistent. The tension is not merely suggested: it is carved with the dry edge of the gouge. On the left, a black cat arches its back and bares sharp teeth, with two green circles concentrating all the coiled aggression of its crouching body. On the right, the child’s face answers with stony fixity, fractured into angular, splintered planes reminiscent of carved masks, resisting the challenge without flinching.

The point of maximum friction occurs where the feline's whiskers cross the boy's cheek. It is a direct, almost tactile invasion that annihilates any buffer zone. While the cat curves into a horizontal mass whose tail drops heavily to frame the left flank, the youth stands upright, locking down the right margin with the geometric severity of his haircut and a torso rendered in a flat cerulean blue field.

That blue patch of the shirt and the washed-out sky-blue background operate as a deceptively serene foil to the violence of the black. The black ink does not simply delineate outlines; it devours the surface and yields harsh shadows, scored by white incisions that resemble scratches across the paper. In the background, the subtle pressure of the printing plate reveals the memory of the wood, an organic grain vibrating behind the dispute.

The standoff transcends a domestic incident to become a duel of pure wills. There is no hierarchy between the suspicious animal and the sullen child; both share the same gestural hardness, the same territorial instinct, and a mutual mistrust that the woodblock fixes without decorative concessions.
