Curatorial analysis

A strict optical binarism governs the surface long before any narrative becomes intelligible. The white of the canvas and the absolute black of the pigment confront each other without tonal gradations or intermediate grays, compelling the eye to decipher a dense tangle of interlaced silhouettes. What initially resembles a vegetal arabesque or an abstract diagram gradually reveals itself as a universe populated by multiple simultaneous scenes: riders on schematic mounts, figures dancing or raising their arms, foliage that merges with anatomies, and bodies that emerge from the very shadow that conceals them.

Structurally, a sinuous trunk or bough ascends diagonally from the lower center toward the left, anchoring a space that otherwise would entirely lack gravity or traditional perspective. Around this axis unfold small vignettes of classical and pastoral resonance. Toward the lower left corner, a group rests near a geometric structure; in the center, two figures perform a ritual dance; higher up, horsemen and figures appear to float between treetops and cloud-like masses that vibrate against the pale ground.

The principal tension lies in the ceaseless interplay between figure and ground. Negative space does not act as a mere receptive void, but as an active force carved with millimeter precision, where the white seems to pierce the dark mass with the same violence with which the black advances across the canvas. The oil application is flat, graphic, and direct, devoid of heavy impasto yet charged with an organic vibration that evokes large-scale woodcut or lithographic ink.

This multiplicity of fused bodies and natural elements suggests a continuous metamorphosis, where the human and the botanical exchange identities. Rigo presents a fragmented narrative, a collective dream in which the gaze never rests, forced to travel across every corner to reconstruct a mythology suspended in the sheer power of contrast.
