Curatorial analysis

A compact and austere volume commands the surface from the very first moment. The architecture does not yield to nature; it establishes itself in the center through a wall divided by a vertical axis that organizes the scene into two frontal planes, capped by an oxidized-tile roof that compresses the upper space. The diagonal lines of the ridge and eaves impose a geometric solidity that reduces the landscape to its essential relations of mass, plane, and shelter.

Against this constructed stillness, the trees behave neither as random nor as swaying foliage, but as carved bodies. Their canopies, faceted in deep, dry greens through broken planes that catch light with sobriety, rise upon slender cinnamon-toned trunks. To the left, a dense cluster emerges from a looser, textured brushstroke that suggests grass; to the right, two specimens are silhouetted directly against the bare wall, like silent sentinels guarding a facade that offers neither doors nor windows.

The medium of waxed wood is decisive in the perception of matter. The wax imparts a velvety, matte skin to the support, absorbing pigments into the grain and eliminating any surface reflection that might disrupt the intimacy of the scene. This finish softens the boundaries between color fields, tempering the rigor of geometry to grant it an earthy, almost artisanal warmth, wherein the painting feels as physical as a piece of furniture or traditional woodwork.

Stripped of human figures and anecdotal detail, the scene becomes a study in stillness and shelter. The trees and the house share the same mineral density, held in a suspended time where stylized nature and archetypal dwelling exist in a serene, hermetic equilibrium.
