Curatorial analysis

Two triangular planes in sand tones cut through the reddish background with the severity of rural gables or pyramids. Facing this almost mineral stillness, a dense cluster of wheat ears bursts forth from the left, tightening the space with a botanical diagonal that ascends decisively toward the crest of the composition.

The material defines the intimate character of the picture. The work on waxed wood lends the pigments a muted warmth, devoid of harsh shine, where the surface retains a tactile porosity. Across the leaves and stalks, the rapid, scumbled application of pigment over the wax produces glazes that reveal underlying layers: dry greens, wheaten yellows, and earthy ochres coexist in an overlap of sharp lines that seem to vibrate against the solidity of the flat backgrounds.

The compositional balance rests upon a deliberate asymmetry. Countering the concentrated density of the foliage in the foreground, toward the right, rises the ghostly insinuation of a few bare blades, drawn with a lightness that nearly dissolves them into the ochre surface. This disparity of masses establishes a quiet rhythm, reinforced by the angular division that fractures the terracotta sky into two distinct luminous intensities, as if dry afternoon light struck adjacent walls at different angles.

The perimeter border, painted on the same support in an olive-green nuance, encloses the scene and accentuates its quality as a sheltered space. Between the volumetric abstraction of the architectural forms and the organic fragility of the grain, the eye oscillates between the constructive order of shelter and the elemental pulse of the harvest, both suspended in an atmosphere of silence and maturity.
