Curatorial analysis

Yellow functions here not as a mere pigment, but as an expansive pulse that completely saturates the peripheral vision. Across a format more than two meters wide, the surface behaves like an effervescent vegetal wall, deliberately dispensing with sky, horizon, or vanishing point. What Álvaro Gómez offers is an experience of direct immersion: a continuous plane where hundreds of organic units, suggestive of flowers, petals, or wild blossoms, reverberate in a cadence without hierarchies.

Beneath this solar tide operates a deep, complex chromatic framework. Tones of moist earth, siennas, teal greens, and mineral shadows uphold and propel forward the frontal luminosity of the acrylic. This alternation of densities does not seek to record botany with mimetic precision, but rather to capture the vibration of a living ground. Small flecks of grayish white and lavender, scattered like minuscule constellations, break the uniformity of the yellow and introduce an airy counterpoint, as if light were filtering through microscopic crevices.

The painterly matter reveals a remarkable tactile duality. There are areas where the paint appears to have been applied with fluid lightness, pooling along translucent edges, alongside defined dabs where the impasto thickens, tracing silhouettes that hover between the graphic sign and the purely gestural mark. The eye finds no rest in any dominant center; it travels continuously from one edge of the canvas to the other, caught in an ongoing oscillation between the collective mass and the singularity of each stain.

By dissolving the distance between viewer and landscape, the canvas transforms contemplation into an almost tactile proximity. It is a fragment of nature amplified to mural scale, where tropical exuberance strips away all narrative anecdote to reveal itself as pure luminous and vital energy.
