Curatorial analysis

A solitary bentwood chair, rendered in foreshortening, dominates the plane without leaning on any recognizable floor or horizon line. Its physical presence relies on the tension between the solidity of its dark contours and the atmospheric dissolution of its surroundings. Guillermo Conte articulates an image in which the piece of furniture embodies a void charged with resonance; the absent body, summoned by the concave backrest and enclosing arms, becomes the true axis of the composition.

The space encompassing the structure is far from neutral. It is saturated with earthy glazes, ochres, and oxide washes reminiscent of aged parchment weathered by time or a wall eroded by humidity. Running across this chromatic field is a feverish, illegible cursive script that crosses the sheet like an unbroken murmur. This writing operates simultaneously as a visual weave and an emotional document: an unreadable epistolary stream that does not seek to be decoded, but rather suggests the accumulated weight of letters, stories, or silences that precede the image.

Through screenprinting, Conte achieves a textural vibration uncommon in the graphic medium. Deep browns firmly define the volume of the object, highlighting the subdued gleam of steam-bent wood, while the background gradations breathe with the spontaneous fluidity of an ink wash. This counterpoint between the rigor of industrial design and the fortuitous imprint of the stain gives the whole a restrained drama.

"A la Espera" soberly fixes the state of anticipation announced by its title. Stripped of any immediate anecdote, the print transforms absence into a corporeal fact, a suspended intimate space where memory seems to await the return of whoever once occupied that seat.
