Curatorial analysis

The continuous arch of the body organizes the entire surface, turning anatomy into a protective vault that shelters a perfect sphere. In this dialogue between the pure circle and the organic curve, the lithograph translates a strictly sculptural conception of volume onto paper: there are no backgrounds or anecdotal accessories, only the fullness of mass silhouetted against the neutral whiteness of the sheet. The curvature of the back stretches like a monumental bridge, supported on the left by the powerful fold of the thigh and on the right by the restrained rest of the arms.

Beneath this living lintel, the sphere does not act as a mere support, but as a primordial core that shares the same gravity as the figure. The tonal modeling, resolved with a soft and dense sfumato of lithographic crayon, distributes velvety shadows that endow both skin and sphere with the consistency of polished stone. It is a restrained chiaroscuro, where light seems to emanate from the very white matter of the support, while the deepest shadows gather strategically at the points of contact with the ground and around the belly sheltering the circular form.

On the right edge, the face emerges framed by the arm in a sort of biological cocoon or headdress, offering the only point of direct psychological contact. With a serene, almost timeless frontal gaze, the figure regards the viewer without drama, anchoring the piece in a meditative dimension. This imperturbable presence, joined with the rhythmic cadence of the fingers and rounded limbs, evokes states of gestation and cosmic balance where the human ceases to be individual and becomes an archetype of origin and refuge.
