Curatorial analysis

A black cat rests its dense, velvety mass upon the curved crest of an enormous watermelon slice. The scene is organized around this red crescent, whose fresh pulp and meticulously rhythmic seeds support the feline's weight. Its green gaze, direct and unflinching, locks onto the viewer while a front paw grazes the pristine spathe of a calla lily. Around them, on a turquoise surface, rest tropical fruits in varying stages of ripeness, small yellow spheres, and a dragonfly perched atop a green fruit, assembling a still life that seems to come alive under a secret order.

The interior space engages in dialogue with signs of suspended time. On the wall, a clock marks an immobile, quiet hour, while to its right a framed portrait of a melancholic harlequin observes the scene, cheek resting against a gloved hand. Toward the left, an open window reveals a blue sky filled with cottony clouds and a crescent moon that defies the diurnal brightness of the outdoors. This superposition of waking and dreaming, of domestic interior and celestial horizon, establishes an atmosphere of uncanny wonder where everyday objects surrender their functional scale to claim a poetic prominence.

The oil brushwork is deliberately neat and satin-smooth. The artist modulates volumes through seamless transitions that grant the cat's coat, the waxy skin of the mangoes, and the smoothness of the blossom an almost hypnotic tactile presence. There is no trace of haste in the stroke: the contrasts between absolute black, translucent crimson, and teal greens are resolved through sharp contours that hold the light within each form. Within these intimate dimensions, the feline nap's apparent placidity harbors a rigorous visual enigma, in which the stillness of plant matter and animal vigilance coexist in a balance as fragile as it is alluring.
