Curatorial analysis

The Renaissance icon descends from her Florentine pedestal into a hermetic, nocturnal valley. In a strikingly vertical and almost intimate format (barely thirteen centimeters wide), the recognizable figure of the Mona Lisa settles among boulders and dense vegetation, becoming the gravitational center of a scene where myth merges with botanical imagery. In her lap, a silver cat replaces the still composure of the classical hands, while at her feet stands a diminutive girl in a pink dress holding a floral bouquet, introducing an enigma of scale and kinship that disorients the viewer.

The space is organized into rising, symmetrical registers. In the lower ground, a body of water patterned with meticulously repeated ripples gives way to a stony riverbank. Steep hills flank the clearing like a natural theatrical curtain, dotted with stylized trees and ferns rendered with calligraphic patience. Above the horizon, where a yellow haze hints at a frozen twilight or a premature dawn, the sky stratifies into curving clouds that harbor a full moon suspended at the apex, precisely aligned with the lady's vertical axis.

The thin acrylic paint reveals the canvas weave beneath, utilizing that texture to infuse the foliage with a stippled vibration. Deep greens and slate blues command the palette with quiet restraint, punctuated only by the reddish gleam of the child’s dress and the milky glow of the lunar sphere. Villares displaces the historical portrait into a oneiric realm, where museum solemnity dissolves into a forest fable. There is no corrosive irony in this transplantation, but rather a patient devotion to the miniature, capable of transforming a universal emblem into the secret inhabitant of a primordial landscape.
