Curatorial analysis

An effervescent mass of pure pigment devours the lower half of the canvas and pushes toward the sky with the persistence of an overflowing meadow. In this large square format, Álvaro Gómez orchestrates a sensory clash between the vivid frontality of flora and the vertical, phantasmagorical descent of the background plane. The chromatic burst does not seek to replicate a specific garden, but to capture the expansive force of blooming at its absolute peak.

The rhythm is built through a dense saturation of rounded dabs of fiery red and bright yellow, flecked with cobalt blue and tiny white sparkles. Below, the petals cluster into a thick, tactile tapestry where stems barely emerge from the textural vibration. Toward the middle register, the flowers begin to space out and lengthen into slender stalks that attempt to conquer the upper realm, turning the ground-level density into an airy dance of suspended corollas.

Behind this botanical euphoria, the space mutates entirely. The background operates as a curtain of water, mist, or sheer rock, resolved through ashen washes and whitish drips running downward in austere lines. That liquid, spectral verticality slows the eye and offers an optical reprieve from the primary glow of the flowers, creating a dialectic between the static and the fleeting, between the heaviness of stone or rain and the ephemeral lightness of petals.

By dispensing with a traditional horizon, perspective collapses in favor of an immersive environment. The monumental scale of one and a half meters places the viewer face to face with the thicket, stripped of references to open ground or sky. What remains is the raw tension between the matter that vigorously sprouts and the watery veil that threatens to either dissolve or nourish it, consecrating nature not as a static postcard, but as a geological and vegetal force in constant combustion.
