Come here baby ..., by Leda Astorga. The disproportion between the two bodily masses immediately governs the tension of the scene: on one side stands a voluptuous, rooted female anatomy whose lumbar curve and hips anchor weight toward the earth; on the other, an elongated, angular male figure collapsing into a senile stoop of bent knees and a forward-thrusting neck.

Curatorial analysis

The disproportion between the two bodily masses immediately governs the tension of the scene: on one side stands a voluptuous, rooted female anatomy whose lumbar curve and hips anchor weight toward the earth; on the other, an elongated, angular male figure collapsing into a senile stoop of bent knees and a forward-thrusting neck. Each character rests upon its own stony base, transforming the interval between them into an active void where their hands, hovering without touching, carry the full charge of courtship.

Concrete, a medium traditionally allied with architectural severity, here yields to grotesque modeling and festive sensuality. The oil pigments soak into and tint the porous texture of the substrate, allowing the rough grain of the cement to heighten the carnality of the flesh. Colors clash with uninhibited candor: the acid green of the tight dress magnifies the fullness of the dark hips, while the floral shirt in red and yellow, worn with pale shorts and a camera slung at the hip, instantly exposes the archetype of the foreign tourist.

Leda Astorga harnesses visual satire to stage a cultural and corporeal clash characteristic of tropical resort towns. The body language is telling: the woman commands the encounter with half-closed eyes, a knowing grin, and a raised arm that beckons or dictates, while a tiny creature peeks beneath her feet to accentuate the latent warning. Before her, the visitor hesitates with trembling fingers and wide, bewildered eyes caught between enchantment and disorientation.

Within that suspended gap between two figures that never quite merge lies the acute insight of the sculpture. Caricature moves beyond anecdotal humor, turning into a biting commentary on power, commodified desire, and mismatched fantasies played out against the tropical coast.
