Curatorial analysis

A continuous sea of blue commands the frame, eliminating any sense of horizon. In this deliberately tight, overhead vantage point, Álvaro Gómez dispenses with conventional spatial markers (sky, distant ground, or vanishing line) to immerse the viewer directly into the density of an overflowing thicket. Each flower emerges as a rhythmic accumulation of curved, fleshy brushstrokes, where cobalt and cerulean blue collide against pale highlights and deep shadows, unleashing an optical vibration that seems to pulse before the eye.

Beneath this humming tide, the earthy bed breathes through an intricate weave of ochres, burnt siennas, and mossy greens. These warm notes do not operate as an inert background, but rather as an essential thermal counterpoint: the contrast thrusts the blues toward the surface with an almost electric luminescence. The apparent homogeneity of the foliage conceals a careful modulation; the blossoms open with greater breadth and presence along the lower edge, compacting as they ascend, which hints at a subtle slope in the ground without ever disrupting the frontal, enveloping nature of the whole.

The acrylic paint asserts an unmistakable tactile presence. Each corolla retains the relief of the gesture, modeling minute volumes through overlapping layers that catch the actual light of the room. This proliferation of small organic shapes, where no blossom replicates its neighbor, shifts the focus from botanical accuracy to a purely sensory and tactile experience. The multitude of petals culminates as a self-sustaining organic surge, a living fabric that overspills the physical boundaries of the canvas to envelop the viewer in an unbroken rhythm.
