Curatorial analysis

A wall stratified by time, reminiscent of the back of an antique altarpiece or parchment stripped of fragments, sustains the rhythm of this diptych. The central vertical seam divides the visual field into two symmetrical leaves, yet the textural handling denies any rigid geometric order. Through ochre glazes, textile imprints of burlap, and subtle incisions, the surface acquires the tangible density of a palimpsest where traces of disparate eras coexist.

Amidst this atmosphere of patinas and golden earths, three metallic apples emerge with the precision of a meticulous trompe-l'œil. Two of them retain the golden sheen of the background, while the third, suspended in the lower right quadrant, manifests in an intense, reflective cobalt blue. This solitary cool fruit disrupts the chromatic equilibrium and instantly commands the eye, acting as an enigmatic gravitational center that subverts the pervasive warmth. Each fruit casts a softly offset shadow, appearing to float mere centimeters away from a wall that is neither entirely flat nor ethereal.

Graphic elements heighten this sense of visual riddle. To the left, a column of Gothic calligraphy descends in low relief, mute and indecipherable; along the opposite edge, three rusted washers or bolts seem to fasten the surface to a concealed structure. Above, a rectangular window frames a vermilion splash that vibrates like a solitary flame, conversing with the slender drippings of cerulean and umber tracing down the lower base.

The piece operates on the boundary between relic and contemporary testament. Rather than describing a traditional still life or yielding to pure abstraction, it orchestrates an alchemical space where accumulated matter, fragmentary script, and polished fruit suggest guarded secrets, arrested time, and a strange, grounded sacredness.
