A turquoise swell sustains the scene before its figures can even be fully discerned. Across nearly three meters in width, Salvador Ávalos transforms the notion of the market into a suspended choreography, where a multitude of gown-clad women inhabits a permeable architecture poised between modern cityscapes and aquatic reverie. There is neither earthly hustle nor visible haste; the gathering is arranged as a lyrical ensemble upon modular pedestals reminiscent of interlocking puzzle pieces or playful gears.
The visual rhythm is articulated through stylized verticals (the feminine silhouettes with upright torsos and flared skirts) that alternate rhythmically with the curve of floating umbrellas and architectural arches. These parasols, tinted in diaphanous yellows, deep blues, and emerald greens, act as protective domes in a space where gravity appears suspended. In the background, skyscraper facades with window grids and classical arcades dematerialize into faceted planes, dissolving the boundary between indoors and the open air into a single atmospheric vibration.
The acrylic surface deploys tonal transitions of remarkable delicacy, wherein cerulean blue and viridian green are confronted by sudden flashes of lemon yellow. This luminous warmth, concentrated on bustiers, skirts, and architectural openings, provides a temperature that balances the prevailing cool tones. The visible impasto in certain areas modulates the light across the canvas, granting the bodies a tactile volume that dispenses with physiognomic detail to emphasize the cadence of gesture: arms raised in semicircles, elusive gazes, and stances of patient contemplation.
Under the title Mercadito III, the daily pulse of collective exchange sheds its documentary roughness and reinvents itself as a shared mystery. The urban plaza is transmuted into a civic aquarium where each female presence, self-absorbed yet inseparable from the whole, sustains her own fragment of light.
