Curatorial analysis

A dense plant tangle closes off any panoramic escape and places the viewer's gaze at the very heart of the thicket, suppressing the horizon line to turn the foreground into a tactile, immersive wall. In the lower left quadrant, an overflowing clump of grass bursts into a fan, casting fine needle-like strokes of cream, silver, and straw tones that contrast with the underlying dark soil. This initial eruption destabilizes any geometric order and establishes a decisive dynamic tension: the eye enters through this radiant mass, almost sculptural in its roughness, before delving into the vertical density that sustains the rest of the composition.

The ground is resolved through a rhythmic and fragmented accumulation of short brushstrokes, where fiery yellows, lemon greens, and ochres vibrate over dense backgrounds of olive green and burnt earth. There are no smooth surfaces or accommodating glazes; the oil paint is laid down in striations and small directional strokes that lend the landscape's crust an incessant agitation. From this carpet of grasses emerge slender stems and woody shrubs with russet bark that climb upward, articulating an intricate lattice through which fleeting glimpses of cerulean blue appear in brief gaps.

This structure of crisscrossing lines and sharp chromatic contrasts rejects the placid vision of traditional landscape to propose a space charged with botanical electricity. The light does not passively bathe the foliage, but rather seems to emanate from the very collision between warm and cool tones, suggesting the dry, vibrant atmosphere of scrubland exposed to full sunlight. By dispensing with distance and concentrating on the candor of native scrub, the canvas transforms humble vegetation into a resounding pictorial force, whose vitality asserts itself through the density of its matter and the persistence of its rhythm.
