Curatorial analysis

A strip of incandescent sunlight compresses from the top edge the entire telluric weight of the painting. The thermal contrast is sharp. Above, a flare of pure yellows and oranges expands an almost blinding radiance; below, a dense bed of emerald greens, deep turquoises, and midnight blue absorbs the gaze into an almost abyssal stillness. Between both worlds there is no docile transition, but rather a friction zone where matter seems to simmer.

This intermediate band functions as the true epicenter of the piece. The acrylic here does not behave as an ethereal glaze, but as a geological mass dragged by spatulas and horizontal scrapers. In that clash of layers, incisions and scraping reveal previous chromatic sediments: splinters of chalk white, flashes of lemon yellow, and fragments of cobalt blue that emerge like foam or electrical discharges. The pressure of the tool across the canvas leaves tangible furrows, jagged edges, and impasto ridges that break the two-dimensionality and trap incident light in minute reliefs.

The square format, measuring over a meter on each side, magnifies that oscillation between atmospheric horizon and mineral crust. One might recognize in it the memory of a sunset over an unfathomable sea or the microscopic cartography of a terrestrial stratum subjected to extreme heat; yet the painting does not illustrate a landscape, but the drive of its elemental forces. The title finds its exact anchor right there, since what holds the gaze is not a recognizable view, but the retinal frequency with which the cold depths and the crowning fires continue to dispute the surface.
