Curatorial analysis

The frontal gaze of these three monumental faces commands the canvas, suspended in a stillness that spans the entire width of the composition. The eyes, enormous discs of fathomless black with symmetrical highlights, fix the viewer with a ceremonial quietude. Starting from them, anatomy is stretched and synthesized without yielding to customary portrait mimicry; extraordinarily long cylindrical necks, angular noses delineated by sharp edges, and tiny mouths that hold any obvious narrative gesture in suspension.

The pictorial space deliberately rejects linear perspective to configure itself like an altarpiece where disparate scales and entities coexist. Giant watermelon wedges rest atop two of the figures, functioning both as headdresses and inhabited micro-environments; inside the central fruit, the red pulp shelters a hut and a tree, merging food with ancestral soil. Around them, markers of a communal geography emerge: conical roofs scattered across blue hillsides, the smoking silhouette of a volcano to the left, a church with its cross, and clusters of houses that seem to float or climb up the backdrop.

In the lower plane, objects extend bodily presence. A guitar with warped contours and a sinuous neck merges with the chest of the woman on the right, while to the left a violet and vermilion bird blends into the folds of clothing. The acrylic medium reveals a grainy, almost sandstone texture that softens the graphic precision of the black contour lines, lending the skin tones and sky gradients a tactile, earthy density.

This coexistence of everyday life and wondrous anomaly, in which a fruit shelters a rooftop and a musical instrument shares the texture of flesh, casts the three women not as mere peasants or musicians, but as tutelary deities of the landscape. Their hieratic stillness transforms the scene into a visual hymn to collective memory and rootedness.
