Curatorial analysis

A nocturnal flock of razor-sharp silhouettes dominates nearly the entire pictorial space, pointing their needle-like beaks toward the pale disk of the moon. The relationship between the elongated horizontal format and the shared direction of their gaze generates a suspended dynamism: rather than scattering in flight, these bodies remain locked in attentive contemplation, articulated like interlocking curved and faceted planes layered toward the right.

Everything across the surface is activated by an intensely worked tactile relief. Far from settling into flat zones, the acrylic matter is modeled into dense swirls, curved ridges, and textured crests that evoke fossilized plumage or the surge of an invisible wind. Raking light across these raised patterns breaks up the pure blues, scattering the palette into deep indigo, glowing violets, electric ceruleans, and subtle greenish glazes that outline the edges of each creature.

The eyes serve as the psychological anchors of the composition. Rendered with a geometric synthesis bordering on the totemic, they appear as glossy black orbs flanked by linear lids or stylized radiating lashes, their tiny white highlights mirroring the moon stationed in the upper-left corner. This optical device upends conventional landscape scale: the moon, small and solitary in its field of blue, acts as an absolute focal point magnetically aligning these stylized figures.

The ensemble evokes a moment suspended between biological fable and astral myth. Gilberto Aquino distills the natural world into an architecture of incisive lines and vibrant tactile surfaces, transforming a wild encounter into a ceremonial, secretive gathering governed by the blue silence of the night.
