Curatorial analysis

Two chromatic fields divide the support through a severe horizontal cut, establishing an immediate dichotomy between rational order and organic dispersion. In the upper half, a luminous, weathered yellow sustains a rough, texture-laden surface where clay-toned human silhouettes are arranged. These figures, captured in profile in everyday stances and cropped by the canvas edges, surround a central square of almost geometric rigor. There, a grid of microscopic individuals serves as a backdrop to the circular transparency of the Vitruvian Man, an explicit anchor to the classical ideal of human proportion.

In absolute contrast to that mental architecture, the lower half plunges into a deep, earthy, flat terracotta red, across which dark, unsettling teal butterflies gravitate. Their distribution adheres neither to a grid nor to a metric axis; they fly or alight at variable angles, some cropped by the lateral boundary, introducing a pulse of weightlessness that defies the tectonic stability of the upper section. The pictorial matter calms here, allowing the tonal contrast between the warm ground and the emerald shadow of the wings to concentrate the optical tension.

By confronting Renaissance measurement with the vulnerability of the insect, the surface poses a reflection on time and the fragility of our certainties. The figures in the upper zone seem oblivious to the diagram that governs them, while below, the butterflies inhabit a space devoid of ground or sky. The work thus articulates a tension between the human desire to systematize the world and the elusive nature of life, where scale and permanence reveal themselves as fleeting artifices.
