Curatorial analysis

A tiny, elastic white cat steps down the edge of a monumental armchair that seems to overflow its own physical boundaries. The visual saturation is immediate: every cushion, backrest, and arm of the furniture carries an independent and resolute textile pattern, where flat flowers, vertical stripes, calligraphic scrolls, and geometric pinwheels coexist. This chaotic juxtaposition of printed textures generates a chromatic feast of vibrant magentas, luminescent yellows, purples, and sky blues that vie voraciously for the viewer's attention.

The pictorial space dispenses with any cast shadow or conventional depth. Perspective is deliberately flattened to favor the graphic rhythm of black outlines that bound and organize every motif. Rendered through clean, homogeneous layers of screenprinting ink, the surface boasts a direct, unshaded luminosity, reinforced by the gold and brown filigree that populates the upper right background like opulent wallpaper.

Amid such a decorative storm, the animal's small white figure acts as an indispensable compositional anchor. Its minimal scale in comparison to the armchair's exaggerated bulk sets up an intentional disproportion: rather than appearing overwhelmed by the surroundings, the feline fixes its almond-shaped, blue-ringed gaze directly on the viewer, tensing its front paws with almost theatrical resolve.

The title, Autoestima (Self-Esteem), reframes the scene through humor and subtle irony. This is not merely a portrait of a pet within an exuberant domestic setting, but a playful reflection on individual assertion against an environment threatening to engulf it. The cat does not compete with the stridency that encloses it; it simply crowns it, the absolute ruler of a baroque throne that serves as its stage.
