Curatorial analysis

The surface unfolds as an absolute botanical weave, devoid of a horizon line, sky, and traditional vanishing points. In this horizontal format of ninety by one hundred and forty centimeters, Álvaro Gómez cancels the customary contemplative distance of traditional landscape painting, plunging the viewer into a direct overhead immersion, much like leaning over wild ground in full bloom. The canvas operates under the logic of an all-over field, where every sector claims equal material and luminous intensity without yielding to a central focus.

Although the title directs attention toward the violet presence, the initial impression is governed by a vibrant constellation of energetic yellows. These marks, applied through short, dense touches of acrylic, float over a vegetal twilight of shadowy greens, earth tones, and deep blacks. Pausing over the weave reveals its true chromatic complexity: amid the luminous tide, small violet corollas and reddish sparks emerge as precise counterpoints. The juxtaposition of yellows and violets, rigorous complementaries, triggers a constant optical oscillation that makes the pictorial plane seem to vibrate.

The pictorial gesture relies on a patient, nearly obsessive reiteration. Each brushstroke retains its body and texture, revealing the freshness of the impasto upon the canvas. There is no pursuit of descriptive fidelity or scientific cataloging here; rather, the painting captures the hum of plant life, nature's fertile chaos at its most intimate scale. The surface transcends the floral motif to become a study of visual rhythm, material density, and the stubborn biological impulse that insists on covering everything.
