Curatorial analysis

The visual magnetism erupts from the chromatic clash of two pure complementaries: a red cat, upright and enigmatic, and a green cat slinking with elastic agility over the backrest of an armchair. Tapia arranges both felines not as simple domestic pets, but as embodiments of contrasting temperaments coexisting within the same sculptural space. The wooden furniture, with sinuous curves reminiscent of biomorphic forms, acts as the vortex where both figures anchor and confront one another, aiming their dilated gazes directly at the viewer.

Around this intimate scene, the background completely dispenses with traditional three-dimensional perspective, embracing instead a festive, flat geometry. Stylized blossoms with mauve and orange petals dialogue with undulating ribbons in fuchsia and turquoise, shaping an ornamental tapestry or rug that seems suspended in diamond-like rotation. At the outer edges, an aura of yellow rays against a black ground frames the composition with the visual energy of a graphic print, containing the chromatic vibration within the square format of the canvas.

The acrylic application is crisp, almost airtight, built on dense, even fields of color bound by precise black outlines. This delineation heightens the autonomy of each pigment while reinforcing the tension between the stately stillness of the red feline and the downward torsion of the green one. In that unstable equilibrium between the sensuality of curving lines and the psychedelic burst of the surroundings, the painting posits the armchair as a shared territory where courtship, coexistence, and animal play merge into an arresting, playful atmosphere.
