Curatorial analysis

An absolute and continuous cobalt blue envelops the scene, suppressing any reference to ground or horizon to place the figure in a purely oneiric atmosphere. In the center, the female profile unfolds in an interplay of transparencies and simultaneous contours; two faces turned toward the right share the same enigmatic gaze, creating a sense of psychological doubling or time suspended in a single moment.

The architecture of the figure is governed by the imposing verticality of the headdress or hair, a compact mass of petrol tones that rises and curves like a sculptural wave. From this dark structure sprout the winged creatures that give the painting its title. At the crest, an upright yellow bird is inscribed within a thin white circular halo, lending it an almost mystical quality; lower down, a second curved form in luminous yellow rests like a moon or a nest within the hollow of the hair. Toward the background, silhouettes cut out in sky blue extend this avian presence, merging the human figure with her own imagined environment.

Across the surface of the canvas, the oil paint reveals calculated transitions between areas of flat color and patches of textural vibration. While the faces maintain a clean, soft application in salmon and rosy tones, the lower garment displays a textured treatment in mustard and ochre hues, flecked with modulations that evoke a dense ornamental textile. The light does not originate from an identifiable external source, but from internal chromatic contrasts: pure yellow and white accents act as brief luminous flashes that direct the visual reading of the whole.

Inhabiting and being inhabited become here a single visual experience. The birds do not accompany the figure from the outside; rather, they emanate from her own thought, transforming the head into a sanctuary where memory, reverie, and flight coexist with complete naturalness.
