Curatorial analysis

A human trunk rises within a format of strict verticality. In Mujer Arbol, Armando Lara does not approach botanical metaphor through flora, but through anatomical accumulation: three nude female torsos overlap, intertwine, and merge into a single living column. The fleshiness of the figures, modeled with an almost academic softness of chiaroscuro and ochre glazes, ascends from firmly rooted feet to a dark, vaulted canopy where faces dissolve amidst pigment splatters, scratches, and a shadowy foliage of violet hues.

This organic fusion is disrupted by a disquieting device, a series of metallic paperclips rendered in trompe l'oeil that appear to hold the bodies together or fasten the skin to the canvas surface. This gesture introduces an unsettling paradox. On one hand, it reduces the monumentality of the arboreal myth to the fragility of an archived document or a cut-out pattern; on the other, it pins the pictorial matter to an utilitarian and piercing dimension. Near the left edge, a dark bird suspended upside down, likewise trapped by one of these clips, heightens the sense of vulnerability and fall.

The space surrounding this corporeal shaft is deliberately fractured. While the lower background divides between a whitish area speckled with rust marks and a dense aubergine plane, the upper region erupts in crimson splatters that converse with the nocturnal backdrop. The light does not originate from an external source, but from the satin gleam of the skin itself, whose solidity contrasts with the turbid, corroded atmosphere enclosing it. Lara thus delivers a tense metamorphosis, where the female body ceases to be an object of placid contemplation to become a resilient organism, bound by memory and surrendered to its own gravity.
