Curatorial analysis

From timber meant to bear ceilings emerges a face that refuses to detach entirely from its architectural origin. In this post, the wood retains the straight edges and coarse geometry of the original beam along its flanks, acting as a severe frame that constrains and simultaneously shelters the effigy. There is no polish here to conceal the stroke of the gouge; each incision remains exposed like a quick-cut scar, endowing the cheeks, neck, and forehead with a rough vibration where natural light breaks into tiny shadows.

Verticality commands with absolute authority. The central axis, marked by the straight nasal septum and the restrained symmetry of the features, reinforces the tectonic vocation of the piece: this face does not float in space, but symbolically shoulders the imaginary weight of a structure. The heavy-lidded eyes and the faintly suggested mouth, sealed in a stone-like stillness yet carved in plant fiber, bestow upon it the air of a silent witness. A subtle dialogue unfolds between the static heaviness of the post and the introspective spirituality of a gaze that seems to look inward rather than out at the viewer.

The warm tonality of the timber, with its ochre grain and chestnut shadows, contrasts with the rigidity of its formal design. By leaving the upper edges cut square and the base fused with the shaft without an added pedestal, the figure asserts the dignity of vernacular matter. The pillar ceases to be merely a structural prop and turns into a totem, a totemic presence that humanizes the support and suggests that all architecture holds, at its core, the living memory of whoever inhabits it.
