Curatorial analysis

Two barely recognizable human profiles emerge from a vertical tangle of dark pigment, suspended in a trance that shifts between spiritual ascent and bodily rupture. Flora Zeledón dispenses with conventional physiognomic detail, concentrating the figurative weight on luminous planes of pure white and ivory that capture light with almost sculptural solidity. Toward the right, an upturned face merges with a fragmented torso in an attitude of surrender; in the lower left quadrant, a second figure echoes that same upward gaze from the shadows, establishing a diagonal tension of correspondence, complicity, and yearning.

The rhythm of the canvas rests upon a vertiginous verticality. Dry brushstrokes applied with gestural urgency, striations of vivid crimson, and slashes of carbon black operate simultaneously as burning trunks, splinters, or gusts sweeping through the pictorial space from top to bottom. This dark scaffolding confronts an open, ambient atmosphere tinted in buttery yellows and faint ochres, where clarity seems to filter down from an unseen source above. In this clash of material densities, bodily contours blur, leaving uncertain the boundary between human flesh and the vegetable thicket that seems both to shelter and devour it.

That formal ambiguity sustains the dramatic pulse of the scene. The title proposes a bond encoded not in peaceful physical contact, but in a shared struggle to reach an open clearing. There is an immediate, tactile quality to the acrylic, resolved in layers where washed transparencies, sharp scrapings, and dense impastos coexist along the edges of the figures. Both beings remain suspended along their path without ever touching, joined solely by the parallel trajectory of their thrust and by a shared combustion of earth tones and shadows that pins them in the moment just before complete dissolution.
