Curatorial analysis
Curatorial analysis
A multitude of birds has taken over the solemnity of a wedding banquet. Gathered around a round table dressed in a white tablecloth, fine crystal glasses, and lit candlesticks, there are no human diners, but rather an overflowing congregation of tropical avifauna. From a stately great egret on the left to a roseate spoonbill in the background, along with motmots, toucanets, and tanagers with electric plumage, the species perch on chair backs, peck at opened papayas, soursops, and dragon fruits, or glide through the air in suspended flight, much like the quetzal that crowns the upper center.
The space is organized around an evident tension between the geometric structure of formal tableware and the organic disorder of the greenery invading every corner. Monstera leaves frame the edges like a theatrical curtain, while a string of incandescent bulbs casts a warm glow amidst the soft-focus foliage in the background. This contrast between the atmospheric bokeh of the forest and the almost microscopic sharpness of each feather, seed, and reflection on glass generates immediate depth, allowing artificial light to coexist with the humid twilight of the canopy.
The acrylic technique functions here with a precision reminiscent of the Flemish Baroque still life tradition, yet replaces the moral warning of vanity with an exuberant celebration of biodiversity. The abandoned or never-started human feast becomes a territory of ecological reappropriation. The scene proposes a fantasy where civilized, domestic space yields to wilderness without violence, simply occupying the void with mute songs, sharp beaks, and a vitality that exceeds the boundaries of any earthly celebration.
