Curatorial analysis

The ceaseless murmur of thought invades the surface before the gaze can even settle on the body. Real newspaper columns, faded prints, and typographic fragments cover the background planes with phrases that function as internal echoes ("Mente, déjame vivir", "Aprender de las pérdidas"). Against this onslaught of language and texture, the female figure seeks shelter within herself: seated on the ground, head resting heavily against her palm and eyes downcast, she seems to be trying to isolate herself from the very noise that surrounds her.

The spatial construction is organized through a strong diagonal descending from the crown of her head down to the barefoot in the foreground. Drawn with an almost sculptural firmness and a foreshortening that challenges the two-dimensional plane, that foot anchors the protagonist in physical reality against a dissolving environment. Marijose Terán contrasts the rigid flatness of the newsprint columns with the organic warmth of the body, resolved through meticulous graphite shading and subtle color glazes that lend volume to the skin and the folds of the crimson, damask-patterned dress.

Light does not obey a single external source; instead, it emerges from the inherent brightness of the paper substrate, carving the silhouette against side shadows and linear transparencies where the faint contour of an orchid and the solitary back of a chair barely appear. These phantom elements float among the mixed-media layers like memories or absences coexisting within the same mental room. At this crossroads between the tactile weight of the flesh and the volatility of the printed word, the work reveals the vulnerability of someone who pauses to endure the weight of their own consciousness.
