Curatorial analysis

The hook suspended on the right operates as an object of sharp uncanniness. With its vermilion head and curved barbs defying gravity, this fishing lure is not merely an instrumental artifact; it functions as the tactile, threatening anchor of a space ruled by fragmented memory. Beside it, an incomplete human face barely surfaces among strata of weathered matter, showing enigmatic, serene lips sheltered beneath a dark, textured block that suppresses the gaze.

The surface on wood is resolved through an overlap of vertical and rectangular planes where the acrylic takes on the look of an eroded wall or canvas rescued from salt residue. Fields in ochre, sienna, and cream intersect with horizontal washes of muted petroleum blue across the lower section. The matter makes no attempt to hide its process: saline deposits, scrapings, and bubbly textures provide an almost geological roughness, in a dynamic of tensions where the graphic precision of the wire and hooks stands in stark contrast to the spectral atmosphere of the background.

The relationship between the veiled figure and the floating bait opens a field of intricate resonances. The lure stalks or guards that silent mouth, articulating a dialectic between capture and containment, between a dissolving memory and the incisive physical presence of whatever pierces. Rather than illustrating a marine anecdote, the composition situates fishing within the territory of the unconscious: an act of dredging up suspended remnants of the past, where prey and angler seem to coexist in the very same enigmatic stillness.
