Curatorial analysis

A howl tears through the stillness of the páramo, immediately organizing the tension of the space. On the left flank, a coyote raises its muzzle with jaws open toward the sky, transforming an alpine landscape into a stage charged with sonic drama and latent vitality. Facing it, the scene unfolds not as a simple rural vista, but as a biological proscenium where every creature and botanical specimen claims simultaneous prominence.

The spatial structure operates from a central cleft receding into infinity. Two lateral massifs, dense and laden with stunted vegetation, enclose a deep valley where mist rests over lacustrine basins and rugged peaks. On the left, the rocky diagonal supporting the canid rises toward sunlit crags; on the right, a vertical cliff serves as a lookout for a crouching feline and gives way to the silent flight of an owl with outspread wings. This play of visual counterweights (the howling predator against the stealthy hunter, the swooping raptor against motionless songbirds) generates a web of gazes and invisible trajectories that energize the entire surface.

The acrylic handling reveals rigorous discipline, akin to naturalist illustration yet elevated to a monumental scale. Brushstrokes define with obsessive neatness the venation of bromeliads, dry quills, the silken coats of mammals, and the iridescent plumage of hummingbirds. In contrast, the distant atmosphere is resolved through soft glazes and vaporous gradients, where icy blues and lavender tones capture the rarefied air and condensed moisture of the highlands.

Rather than a mere topographic record, the painting gathers an entire ecosystem into a single arrested moment. By superimposing planes of botanical observation onto the vastness of the mountain horizon, the image elevates the geography of the páramo to the status of an untouched sanctuary, where ferocity and delicacy coexist in seamless territorial harmony.
