Curatorial analysis

The plant vein rules this close-up plane with the force of an electric circuit. Ana Broennimann avoids observing the plant from garden distance or relying on the wide landscape; she chooses to tighten the frame until turning the croton foliage into a wall of luminous vibration where chlorophyll coexists with burning vermilion.

The surface is organized through an overlapping mass of cordate and lanceolate leaves that fall and rise along interwoven diagonals. The acidic yellow of the primary and secondary veins fractures each leaf blade into nearly vitrified cells, drawing a graphic network of sharp contours. Beneath this yellow filigree, red planes erupt with solid density, serving as an absolute thermal counterpoint against the temperate greens and surrounding foliage. There is no traditional botanical hierarchy: each leaf competes for light and pushes the compositional space forward.

In the background, a dark mass of petrol green and bluish black anchors the scene through a discontinuous, grainy texture worked with tactile relief that absorbs any flare. This textural treatment isolates the botanical subject from its immediate natural surroundings and situates it in a dense, almost scenographic void, magnifying the internal luminosity of every pigment across the pictorial surface.

This tension between the meticulous drawing of the veins and the raw force of chromatic patches endows the piece with an arresting pulse. The croton ceases to be a decorative motif of domestic tropical spaces and stands as a rigorous study of living architecture, where sap, combusting color, and structural rigor coexist with contained vitality.
