Curatorial analysis

A pink-dressed doll lies slumped on the ledge of a stone step, caught in a dark corner where the architecture seems to swallow it. Its closed eyelids and the unnatural twist of its plastic limbs immediately evoke an unexpected fall or definitive abandonment. Morales Sáurez places the focus not on the playful innocence of the toy, but on its status as discarded matter, a human simulacrum devoid of life resting upon a hard, cold, and alien surface.

The spatial construction rests upon severe diagonals. The steps cut across the plane with a tectonic heaviness emphasized by the darkness of the background and the cast shadow advancing from the lower left edge. Confronting that stony, porous, cracked mass (where faint sprigs of vegetation barely peek through the fissures), the figure's body stands out through a soft luminosity. Pastel is handled here with microscopic precision: the silky sheen of plastic on the plump arms, the ribbed texture of the white socks, and the delicate transparency of the dress's lace dialogue with the dusty dryness of the concrete.

The light falls diagonally, filtered and dim, bathing the torso and face in an almost biological warmth that deepens the uncanny nature of the scene. A persistent tension exists between the appearance of peaceful slumber and the inert rigidity of the inanimate object. This contrast between the toy's vulnerability and the monumental roughness of its surroundings transforms an overlooked corner into a silent meditation on oblivion, interrupted childhood, and the mute passage of time over the things we leave behind.
