Curatorial analysis

The checkered border immediately sets the rules of engagement: this is not a naturalistic window onto the coast, but a visual celebration conceived as a playful, large-scale tapestry. Across this generous surface, the sea, sand, and sky shed physical gravity to reorganize into a vibrant catalog of graphic rhythms. Two stylized, leaning palm trunks chart an upward diagonal across the canvas, crowned by foliage that bursts into circles, dots, and crimson spirals, lending the scene an uninterrupted musical cadence.

Beneath this vegetal canopy, a sailboat with an ingenuous bow and striped sails navigates an audacious choreography of overlapping waves. Andrade constructs the swell through successive tiers: crests curling into red arabesques, fields stippled with deep blue, comb-like black-and-white patterns, and aquatic filigrees. The lower register gathers ornamented conch shells and a sea star resting atop dunes filled with ochre swirls, resolving the foreground through a patient accretion of graphic textures. The mixed media yields a crisp opacity, where each outline sharply defines dense, saturated planes of color.

Light does not derive from an external source or cast atmospheric shadows; it radiates from the stark contrast between ivory skies, the flat solar disc, and the frontal purity of primary and secondary hues. By deliberately bypassing conventional perspective, the painter condenses the tropics into a festive, timeless realm, where coastal scenery breaks free from geographic anecdote to assert itself as pure ornamental energy, underpinned by rigorous compositional order.
