A thick, neat mane of hair cascades over the corrugated zinc roof of a modest dwelling in Bebedero de Escazú, spilling down like a living mantle until its waves spread across the dirt yard. This uncanny encounter between vernacular self-built architecture and a feminine anatomical trait disrupts the logic of the peripheral landscape, turning a precarious structure into an animated, almost totemic entity endowed with mystery and its own corporeality.
The drawing establishes a rigorous dialectic between opposing textures and geometries. The surrounding environment is built through straight, angular, and fractured lines: slatted wooden fences, raw concrete blocks, rustic stairs, and the irregular silhouettes of juxtaposed roofs. Against that modular, dry roughness, the hair bursts forth with an organic cadence of curved modulations, satiny sheens, and a continuity that unifies both stories of the house. The deep, velvety blacks of the doorway and the shadow folds within the hair anchor the gaze in the center, while intermediate grays and atmospheric sky washes sustain a dense stillness laden with latent humidity.
By titling the scene with the parenthetical "Plano Astral" (Astral Plane), the domestic realm transcends the testimonial record of precariousness to enter a psychic dimension. The house ceases to be merely a physical shelter and becomes conceived as a sentient body that harbors intimate memories, grief, and lived experience. That mass of hair acts as skin, a protective veil, or the spectral manifestation of its inhabitants, fusing the fragility of sheet metal and scrap wood with the atavistic permanence of a guardian spirit silently watching over the hillside.
