Curatorial analysis

A synthetic discarded object elevated to the stature of a sculptural monument commands the scene with unexpected resolve. The blue polyethylene bag, crumpled and poised in precarious balance atop a pedestal draped in pale fabric, claims the prominence that academic tradition reserved for centuries for classical marbles or liturgical drapery. Mario Rojas Kolomiets does not rely on direct allegory, but on rigorous visual fidelity: the plastic never relinquishes its condition as vulgar packaging, yet an unsuspected pictorial drama unfolds across its surface.

The visual conflict hinges on color and texture. Set against the earthy, neutral warmth of the ochre background, modulated with atmospheric softness, the blue erupts with an almost mineral intensity. Light strikes from the upper left, fracturing the plane into dozens of ridges, hollows, and specular highlights resolved through sharp touches of white and turquoise reflections within its interior opening. This interplay of concavities and convexities transforms the fragility of polyethylene into a rigid carapace, an organic geometry casting violet-tinged shadows onto the cloth base.

Within its modest dimensions of forty by twenty-seven centimeters, the painting encapsulates a temporal paradox intrinsic to our era. The most ephemeral object of contemporary life, engineered for immediate disposal, is arrested in time and fixed through oil paint with almost reverent dignity. The work interrogates the viewer's gaze not through what the object signifies, but through the value that painterly craft confers upon that which we routinely choose to ignore.
