Curatorial analysis

The bodies have lost the ground and, with it, any certainty of scale or direction. In this canvas by Armando Lara, an enveloping current sweeps naked figures that seem to struggle between weightless suspension and free fall. There is neither horizon nor architecture to anchor the space; the scene operates like a marine or cosmic vortex where the physical mass of the anatomies dissolves into a centrifugal tide of deep blues, violets, and turquoise flashes.

The visual pulse is sustained by a fierce thermal tension. Set against the cold abyss of the surrounding atmosphere, the figures radiate a warmth of amber, ochre, and burnt sienna that accentuates their carnal presence. Lara modulates volumes with rigorous, almost sculptural draughtsmanship, defining twisting torsos, tensed limbs, and arched backs through precise chiaroscuro. Yet this anatomical precision does not remain isolated: it fractures along the contours, where splatters, fluid glazes, and abrasions merge the flesh with the turbulence. A constant porosity exists between the skin and the fluid medium that surrounds it.

In this threshold where botanical fragments and foreshortened bodies converge, gravity appears governed by poetic rather than physical laws. The fetal or child-like figure curled in the lower corner coexists with mature forms that cross paths without ever fully touching, evoking a continuous cycle of shipwreck and genesis. Each body navigates the transition differently, caught between the terror of collapse and a serene surrender to the current's thrust. The painted surface, layered with controlled accidents and mineral stains, transforms that restlessness into an experience of suspended contemplation, where the human being remains exposed to forces that vastly exceed its own will.
