Curatorial analysis

Wide, dark eyes command immediate attention from the absolute center of the paper. Rendered in graphite with subtle, almost ethereal modeling, the face avoids sharp contours to dissolve into the luminescent brightness that envelops it. It is an intimate portrait in which the delicate precision of the facial draftsmanship contrasts sharply with the torn, tactile materiality that shelters it.

The structure unfolds through collage and layered planes. Surrounding the head, suggesting a crown or organic hair, an expanse of handmade paper rich in plant fibers and ochre inclusions extends its presence, its frayed edges asserting a visceral tactile weight. This textured element coexists with classic floral patterned cutouts, where roses in sage green and muted grays frame the right temple and mantle the lower torso. The torn, irregular contours disrupt traditional two-dimensional space, conferring upon the figure the aura of a rescued memory, like a fragment retrieved from the passage of time.

The background heightens this atmosphere through an intense cerulean wash saturated at the upper periphery, softening into a radiant white halo as it approaches the head. This chromatic gradation introduces a distinct thermal contrast: the expansive coldness of the outer blue gives way to the veiled warmth of the ochre fibers and the ivory tone of the skin. Within this intimate scale of thirty-one centimeters in height, the juxtaposition of pencil, botanical paper, and printed pattern makes no attempt to disguise its seams; it chooses instead to reveal the tension between drawn skin and material residue, allowing the subject's gaze to anchor the entire resonance of the work.
