Curatorial analysis

A vertical column of bodies sustains the entire structure. Resting upon the shoulders of a standing figure is a smaller one, who in turn balances a dark basket or nest atop their head, configuring a pyramidal axis that evokes reciprocal support and shared burden. The scene does not place the characters within a recognizable space or describe incidental anecdotes; the setting dissolves into a murky atmosphere of rubbed charcoal, brownish washes, and dark bursts that seem to emanate from the very matter that yields the bodies.

The treatment of light operates by subtraction. The flesh of the torsos and limbs does not arise from accumulated layers of white pigment, but from the reserves of the paper support itself, whose warm, earthy tone assumes the condition of illuminated skin. Surrounding that brightness, graphite and charcoal act with contained violence: angular strokes delineate hands and fingers with deliberate coarseness, while dense smudges sculpt collarbones, faces, and the drape of the legs. There is a palpable tension between the fragility of the features (barely sketched with direct, melancholic gazes) and the structural solidity of the human block.

This stacking of bare figures projects an interpretation linked to myth and primordial kinship. The act of carrying another body, crowned by the weight resting at the summit, transforms an everyday gesture of subsistence or play into a ritualized monument to time and filiation. The drawing dissolves toward the bottom without resolving the step of the primary figure, leaving it anchored in a void that defies gravity and heightens its spectral presence.
