Curatorial analysis

Four round, wide eyes dominate the surface, stripping the sacred passage of any complacent sweetness to restore its character of archaic mystery. In this reinterpretation of the Marian motif, the bodies dispense with soft anatomy and present themselves as polyhedral idols carved with a geometric edge. The principal figure, hieratic and almost monolithic in presence, holds the winged creature upon an outstretched horizontal arm, articulating a frontal encounter where there is no whispered dialogue, but rather a revelation frozen in time.

This architecture of faceted planes organizes the scene through sharp diagonals and rigid folds. The larger body anchors itself upon a dark, stepped base, rising with the solidity of a folk altarpiece or ceremonial armor. In contrast, the winged messenger projects sideways with the lightness of a mechanical chimera, balancing the visual weight through a jagged silhouette that challenges the stillness of the whole. Both faces share a vertical split into two tones, a device that hints at a luminous duality between the earthly and the numinous.

Across the wooden support, the mixed media assumes a tangible, geological roughness. The off-white background, worked with coarse impasto and earthy glazes, operates as a chalky void that isolates the figures without placing them in any recognizable domestic architecture. The blue of the tunic, fragmented by two radial emblems resembling wheels or scarified flowers, reveals subtle color abrasions and scratches that expose underlying layers, evoking the weathered skin of colonial imagery or eroded mural painting.

The scene proposes a distant, almost totemic sacredness, where divine announcement does not occur through speech but through a hypnotic fixity. By reducing the narrative to two prismatic presences suspended in an arid silence, the wood becomes an impenetrable altar where revelation assumes the sheer weight of an enduring enigma.
