Curatorial analysis

The commanding weight of mineral matter governs the left flank of the canvas. A rocky mass, sculpted through dense impasto and nearly tectonic facets, surges toward the shore in an abrupt descent of charcoals, blacks, and browns. There is no indulgence in precise draughtsmanship or superfluous detail; the terrain is resolved through the direct friction of oil on canvas, allowing mineral flashes of dry greens and ochres to emerge, anticipating the desolation of low tide.

Confronting this static heaviness, the sea unfolds along a horizontal band where the twilight gloom does not extinguish the light, but rather refracts it. An unexpected vibration of turquoise and emerald filters through the leaden swell, suggesting a marine phosphorescence that disrupts the monotony of the overcast sky. The transition toward the beach is achieved by a thick, vigorous crest of white paint, defining the edge of the breaking wave with the incision of a slash. On the wet sand, fragments of driftwood or weathered stones converse with the surf, treated with a syncopated rhythm of diagonal and horizontal strokes that simulate the ebb and flow of receding water.

Rather than recording an idyllic coastal view, the surface operates as the physical imprint of a struggle between elements: the rock resists, the water erodes, and the air turns heavy with saline mist. Supported by generous dimensions, the framing encloses the viewer within a raw solitude devoid of human presence, where dusk functions not merely as a temporal marker, but as a threshold in which the landscape transcends geography to establish itself as pure chromatic and painterly tension.
