Curatorial analysis

A dense, polished white erupts into the foreground over a weave of crumpled paper. In this large-format painting, everyday service objects (a slender pitcher, cups stacked in precarious balance, a shallow bowl, and a lidded casserole slightly ajar) claim an unusual sculptural weight against the apparent fragility of the ephemeral. They do not rest on a conventional tablecloth, but on folded newspaper sheets, McCall's dressmaking pattern tissue, and floral motifs evoking domestic wallpapers of another era.

The spatial construction blurs the boundary between ground and figure. The paper does not merely serve as a background; it wrinkles, collapses into heavy folds, and physically sustains the tableware, mimicking fabric as it drops toward the lower edge. Amid the typographic fragments appear legible headlines from the newspaper La Nación, legal reports, and the phrase that titles the piece: "A veces miro para atrás, para saber de dónde vengo". The printed text ceases to be purely documentary, transforming into a rhythmic layer of greys in dialogue with the faded hues of the roses.

Light enters from the left with crisp, precise clarity, sculpting the ceramic curves through metallic glares and silvery shadows. Inside the cups and across the bellies of the vessels, the paint captures enamelled smoothness through soft, near-hyperrealistic gradients that contrast sharply with the dry, matte quality of the newsprint and the linear markings of the sewing guides.

By bringing together daily newsprint, garment patterns, and kitchen utensils, the scene builds a stratigraphy of intimate memory. The white tableware, solid and enduring, seems to shelter familial narratives against the fleeting flow of public events and the inevitable wear of time.
