Curatorial analysis

A strip of celluloid weaves across the large-scale canvas like a serpent setting the visual tempo. In the right third, the film retains its framing function, displaying sequential stills where iconic faces of classic cinema emerge: the brooding countenance of a man in a trench coat, hat, and cigarette, beside the restrained drama of a female gaze that magnifies toward the foreground. The scale shift here is striking; the eyes enlarge until they nearly breach the frame, confronting the viewer with the sheer intensity of the silver screen.

Toward the left, however, the film strip sheds its planar rigidity and uncoils into the pictorial space, wrapping around the backlit silhouette of a nude female figure. In this realm, Alberto Moreno departs from graphic restraint to submerge the scene in an incandescent atmosphere of scarlet reds, vermilions, and glowing ochres. The contrast between the documentary detachment of the monochrome film stills and the dense warmth of the shadowed body establishes a tension between projected fiction and carnal desire. The paint glazes soft, smoky transitions across flesh tones and atmospheric vapors, set against the sharp geometric precision of the film's sprocket holes.

This ribbon functions not merely as an iconographic motif, but as a dynamic axis that twists narrative time. As it wraps around the anatomical forms in the foreground, it fuses the medium of cinema with human flesh. The painting constructs a dialogue in which cinematic myth and intimate impulse coexist, suggesting that the collective memory of cinema inhabits our most private waking thoughts, projecting onto the body like an indelible phantom.
