Curatorial analysis

A severe tension governs the space: there is no color in a festive sense, but rather a rigorous gradation of ochres and blacks that turns the watercolor into an architecture of shadows. From a dense, saturated base where pigment seems to settle into almost tectonic pools, large faceted planes emerge, unfurling in a fan-like arrangement. These dark forms, marked by striations and variations in density, evoke folded cardboard screens, stationary blades, or mineral wings held open in absolute silence.

The background anchors this contained explosion through a grid of subtle rectangles and lines that structure the atmosphere into delicate veils. The artist does not dissolve the watercolor into watery caprice; instead, she subjects it to a geometric discipline in which dragged brushstrokes leave striated textures reminiscent of printmaking or lithography. The contrast between the static geometry of the background and the expansive torsion of the central motif generates a suspended dynamic, as if a three-dimensional structure had frozen at the precise moment of articulation.

Light emanates solely from the paper's reserved areas, a warm, coppery glow that filters through fissures and emphasizes the sharpness of each edge. By stripping the scene of literal or narrative references, the composition acquires a meditative and monumental weight that transcends its physical scale. What is ultimately perceived is a study of weight, gravity, and material resistance, where the fragility of paper and water sustains a resolute sculptural presence.
