Curatorial analysis

The initial impact is that of a combustion in open sea. Against a vast envelope of cold blues, three naval silhouettes burn in vermilion, ochre, and black splinters. The central mass of the vessels is not defined by clear outlines, but by a textural accumulation that seems to stay afloat through sheer chromatic energy. Amidst this maritime turbulence, the warmth of the hulls functions as a thermal anchor against the surrounding chill of water and sky.

The surface reveals a decisive, visceral execution, where the acrylic has been applied with a palette knife in thick impastos, drags, and scrapes that shatter the serenity of the background. The masts rise like a network of nervous verticals, brittle lines that pierce the mist and organize the rhythm of the scene. Around this rigging, a constellation of white and yellowish spatters recreates the violence of unleashed wind, merging the boundaries between sea spray and gusts of air. The painting operates in a tense balance: below, bands of deep blue suggest a relentless current; in the center, pictorial matter explodes as if the gale were tearing apart the very timber of the boats.

True to its title, the work portrays neither a calm vessel nor an orderly voyage, but the exact moment when the elements dissolve the certainties of navigation. There is a quiet resilience in these ships facing the storm clustered together, almost like a collective organism. The eye finds no rest in descriptive minutiae, but rather in the vibration of a physically charged painting, where the sea ceases to be a passive backdrop and becomes an indomitable force enveloping everything.
