Curatorial analysis

The pictorial matter asserts itself before the subject matter itself. Applied with an almost sculptural density, the oil furrows the cardboard in rhythmic striations and ridges that catch the light on their own relief, turning each plane into a living surface. The pale sky and the cerulean silhouette of the mountain in the background do not function as a passive backdrop, but rather as taut masses of impasto that push forward the dense greenery of the trees and the luminosity of the dwellings.

At the core of the painting, traditional architecture articulates the space with emphatic geometric solidity. The main volume divides its presence between a lateral wall bathed in clear sunlight, rendered in buttery and ivory tones, and a front facade submerged in lavender and violet shadows of remarkable optical richness. To its left, a smaller secondary building echoes the red clay roof tiles, organizing a diagonal that widens the clearing and generates depth. The door and window openings, executed as frank dark cutouts, anchor the gaze and provide grounded weight to an otherwise vibrant scene.

Toward the base, the scene settles upon a water mirror bordered by small stones and shoreline vegetation. The dark water casts back fragmented reflections of the walls and foliage, softening the rigidity of the architectural volumes through more fluid horizontal strokes. Within these modest dimensions, the apparent ruggedness of the mark-making does not diminish the landscape's monumentality; it concentrates it. The rural environment is captured not as a folkloric anecdote, but as a rigorous dialogue between the gravity of adobe, the surrounding vegetation, and the continuous vibration of the paint.
